But the Minnesota Vikings have signed free agent running back Ryan Moats to a deal, per the good folks at Vikings.com. Moats joins an already crowded battle to see who will be the third running back for the Vikings behind Adrian Peterson and rookie Toby Gerhart.
Moats is a serviceable running back, and will duke it out with Albert Young, Ian Johnson, and Darius Reynaud for the right to be the third running back on the Vikings' roster.
"My role may be playing on special teams, and wherever I fit in is fine with me," said Moats, who played the past two seasons with Houston. "I'm a team player."
"I just knew once I got the call from Minnesota that it was a good fit for me," Moats said. "For me to know [Childress'] philosophy, what he wants and the type of chemistry he wants between coaches and players and players and players, that's good to know."
When Chester Taylor departed to Chicago via free agency, the Vikings had a void at a key position. But they appeared to fill that hole by drafting Gerhart. If not, the Vikings have options, which should make training camp competitive.
