Carl Edwards Holds Off Tony Stewart To Win In Las Vegas

Carl Edwards got his first victory of the 2011 NASCAR season on Sunday in Las Vegas thanks to a tactical error by Tony Stewart.

On the race's final pit stop, Stewart was forced to take four tires for his #14 Ford, as he had made a two-tire pit stop earlier in the race to get himself into the lead.  While Stewart was taking four tires, everyone else was taking two, and Stewart just had too much ground to make up at the race's conclusion.

It was Edwards' second career victory at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, and the 19th victory of his career. Stewart finished in second place, followed by Juan Pablo Montoya, Marcos Ambrose, and Ryan Newman. Rounding out the top ten were Martin Truex, Jr., Denny Hamlin, Dale Earnhardt, Jr., Kurt Busch, and Brian Vickers.

After today's race, Stewart and Kurt Busch are tied for the top spot in the Sprint Cup standings.
