Twins Place Francisco Liriano On Disable List With Left Shoulder Inflammation

Francisco Liriano's roller coaster season continued on Monday, as the Twins placed the starter on the 15-day DL, retroactive to May 23 with inflammation in his left shoulder. Liriano missed a start on Saturday, and Anthony Swarzak made a spot start and was impressive. According to manager Ron Gardenhire, via Rhett Bolinger of MLB.com, the plan will be to continue to start Swarzak in Liriano's place.

"He still doesn't feel good enough," Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said. "So we'll DL him, and Swarzak will start in that spot. It's just not to the point where he wants to throw a bullpen or feels comfortable enough to throw one. So we'll back him off and skip another start and go from there. It's nothing serious."

As we all know, Liriano threw a no-hitter this year, but has been less than impressive in most of his other starts. This is just the latest development in what has been an inconsistent year. We'll have more on Liriano as his injury progresses, and when he might return to the Twins' active roster.
