Minnesota Wild Offseason: Trades And Rumors From Minnesota Hockey

Stay connected for news and updates

The Minnesota Wild have taken a step to help their special teams for the 2011-12 season, sending a third-round choice in the 2013 NHL Draft to the Philadelphia Flyers in exchange for forward Darroll Powe.

Powe, a 26-year old center that can also play on the wing, is viewed as someone that will help the Wild out with their penalty killing. He will also make the Wild younger and faster, which appears to be a priority for Wild GM Chuck Fletcher now that the Mike Yeo era in St. Paul is set to get underway.

Our friends over at Hockey Wilderness seem to be fans of this trade.

For better or for worse, the Minnesota Wild are headed to a youth movement, and this is another step. As JS pointed out on Twitter, this likely marks the end of John Madden with the Wild, as Powe fills the same role. I sit in favor of this trade, as if that matters to anyone. Small price, young, gritty player who can hit. Put him on a line with Clutterbuck, and watch people beg to get off the ice.
