Minnesota Lynx Begin WNBA Title Defense With Rout Of Phoenix Mercury

The Minnesota Lynx began their defense of the WNBA championship in style on Sunday afternoon, cruising to an easy victory over the visiting Phoenix Mercury. The Lynx picked up a 105-83 win to begin the season undefeated while showcasing their talents to the national audience of CBS.

Minnesota took a 13-point lead into halftime and never looked back, using a well-balanced scoring output to upset the Mercury -- who played without Diana Taurasi and Penny Taylor, two of their better players. The Lynx were led by 19 points from Seimone Augustus while Rebecca Brunson nearly picked up a double-double with 12 points, nine rebounds and three blocked shots.

The Mercury were led by former Lynx player Charde Houston with 24 points, though she was a bit inefficient as it took her 22 shot attempts to get to that point.

Minnesota's next game will be Tuesday night as they travel to take on the New York Liberty.
