Wimbledon 2012: Andy Murray, Roger Federer Final Pulls Big Ratings

When Andy Murray met Roger Federer in the 2012 Wimbledon Championship match on Sunday, the competition was jam-packed with a slew of compelling story lines that potentially could intrigue even the most casual of viewers.

On Monday morning it was clear the viewing public was interested.

According to Deitsch, the highest rated tennis event for ESPN prior to Sunday was the 1995 Aussie Open Final, which pitted Andre Agassi against Sampras.

Murray came into the match as the first British-born male to reach the final at the All England Club since 1938 and was attempting to become the first since 1936 to take home the title.

Federer earned his seventh championship at Wimbledon (tying him with Pete Sampras for the most all-time), his 17th Grand Slam title and the No. 1 ranking in the world with the win over Murray.

Wimbledon 2012 Results: Roger Federer Wins 7th Career Wimbledon Title

Roger Federer extended his unprecedented Grand Slam title mark to 17 on Sunday afternoon on Wimbledon's grass, after a four-set dismissal of contender and fourth-seeded Andy Murray (4-6, 7-5, 6-3, 6-4).

In addition to taking home his seventh Wimbledon title, a mark that ties him with his former idol Pete Sampras, Federer's crusade through the men's draw also vaulted him into the No. 1 overall spot in the world, ahead of both Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal. The victory was only Federer's first major title since taking the Australian Open in 2010, but set the stage nicely as the five-time US Open champ heads to the final major of the season next month.

Murray, who fell short in front of his legions of fans yet again in disheartening fashion, gave a teary-eyed speech after the match where he displayed obvious frustration about his inability to break though in a major. Though he opened the morning strong with a 6-4 victory in the first set, this latest loss is sure to send the 25-year-old Murray back to the drawing board.

Wimbledon 2012 Results: Roger Federer Takes 3rd Set To Grab 2-1 Lead

After splitting the first two sets, Roger Federer took the third set of Sunday's Wimbledon men's final with challenger Andy Murray (6-3) to grab a 2-to-1 lead in the match.

Now heading into the fourth set with his sights set firmly on Pete Sampras' record of seven Wimbledon titles, Federer has flustered the younger, less experienced Murray with consistent, near-impeccable groundstrokes.

Although he staked his claim immediately with a 6-4 victory in the first set, Murray has been visibly frustrated by his inability to take Federer out of his comfort zone. In addition to tossing his racquet to the grass in the third set, the look on Murray's face has indicated that he simply doesn't know what else he can do to slow down the Wimbledon legend. Murray has also appeared significantly more winded through the opening three sets, and his conditioning and willingness to push himself are both things to watch as the match presses on.

Wimbledon 2012: Gentlemen's Final Delayed By Rain

Roger Federer leads the 2012 Wimbledon Gentlemen's Final 4-6, 7-5, 1-0 in the third set, but he'll have to wait to keep that momentum going thanks to a rain delay.

Centre Court is covered up with a tarp and the All England Club just announced that due to more incoming rain showers, the roof will be closed and the match should resume in 20 to 30 minutes. Rain was in the forecast for this afternoon in London, so it's not unreasonable to wonder why the roof was not closed in the first place.

The delay came at a good time for Andy Murray, who'd lost all momentum from his first set win. He'll have a chance to catch his breath and re-focus on the task at hand. Murray is in his first-ever Wimbledon singles final and his fourth Grand Slam singles final overall, though he's yet to earn a Grand Slam title.

Wimbledon 2012: Andy Murray, Roger Federer Split First Two Sets Of Gentlemen's Final

Andy Murray won the first set of the Wimbledon Gentlemen's Final, 6-4 over Roger Federer, in front of a raucous pro-British and pro-Murray crowd.

Federer just broke Murray's serve at 6-5 with two incredible drop volleys to take the second set, 7-5, and totally turn the tide of this match.

Murray, a Scotland native, is looking to become the first Brit to win the Wimbledon male singles title since Fred Perry in 1936 and his first Grand Slam title in four tries (first Wimbledon final). As it stands, Murray is already the first British male to win a set in a Wimbledon singles final since Perry in 1936.

This is a golden opportunity for Murray to take home what would be an incredibly meaningful championship for the United Kingdom with Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal, the No. 1 and No. 2 players in the world, respectively, already eliminated.

2012 Wimbledon Live TV Schedule For Sunday

The No. 1 overall ranking in men's tennis is up for grabs for Roger Federer on Sunday, as the six-time Wimbledon champion will prepare for an epic showdown with 25-year-old hometown product Andy Murray in the men's final.

Though Federer began the historic tournament as the third-ranked player in the world, a victory on Sunday would be enough to vault him over both Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal for the top spot in tennis. But with his sights firmly set on taking home his seventh career Wimbledon trophy and 17th career Grand Slam title, Federer will still need to get the better of a very hungry, very determined opponent in Murray.

Unquestionably the most decorated men's player currently without a Grand Slam title to his credit, Murray will be making his fourth career appearance in a major final in Sunday's match. But for what the 25-year-old clearly lacks in Grand Slam experience, he will hope to balance things out with an overwhelming amount of support from both the pro-Murray and pro-England fans in attendance.

Live television coverage of Sunday's final will begin at 8:00 a.m. CST on ESPN, and will run until the event and ensuing trophy presentation are concluded later in the afternoon. A live online stream can also be viewed at Wimbledon.com's official website.

Wimbledon 2012 Scores And Results: Serena Williams Claims Fifth Wimbledon Singles Title

Add one more to the pile for Serena Williams. She defeated Agnieszka Radwanska, 6-1, 5-7, 6-2, to capture the 2012 Wimbledon title, her first grand slam victory since 2010 and her 14th overall. At 30 years old, she is the oldest Wimbledon Women's champion since Martina Navratilova won at 33 in 1990.

It wasn't an easy victory for Williams, as Radwanska fought back from a 4-2 deficit in the second set. Instead of losing her composure, Williams responded in the third by striking four consecutive aces, adding to the women's record 102 she unleashed during the tournament. She previously set the record at 89 during her run to the 2010 title.

The win is Williams' fifth Wimbledon title, tying her with her sister Venus. The pair have won 10 of the past 13 Wimbledon singles titles, and have a chance to add to their trophy collection Saturday afternoon when they play for their fifth Wimbledon doubles title.

2012 Wimbledon Coverage: Agnieszka Radwanska Forces Third Set

Serena Williams is in for a fight.

Agnieszka Radwanska fought back from a 4-2 deficit in the second set to win, 7-5, and force a third set in a match that looked like Williams would dominate en route to yet another grand slam title.

Radwanska has gained momentum as she's figured out how to handle Williams' power. It's paying off as the only way to beat Williams is to play with confidence and not allow her to intimidate you into playing poorly. Radwanska has gathered herself mentally and turned this Wimbledon final into a match instead of a formality.

Radwanska is playing for her first Wimbledon title while Williams is looking for her fifth. One player will be going home empty handed. We'll let you know who that player will be as soon as it happens.

2012 Wimbledon Coverage: Serena Williams Wins First Set Of Final

Serena Williams is making it look easy as she wins the first set of her Wimbledon final against Agnieszka Radwanska, 6-1.

Williams and Radwanska are a contrast in styles as Williams uses power and an almost unhittable first serve versus a precision, finesse game put on the court by Radwanska.

Williams is playing in her seventh Wimbledon final while this is Radwanska's first and it has showed in the early stages of their match.

Williams is playing some of the best tennis she's played in a long time as she's fought her way back from some injuries. She is searching for her fifth Wimbledon title.

But Williams will have to wait to continue her journey. After a 36 minutes first set, the tarp was brought out due to rain and moisture on the court. We will return with more updates as soon as play resumes.

Wimbledon 2012: Andy Murray Advances To Final With Win Over Jo-Wilfried Tsonga

On Friday afternoon, Andy Murray accomplished something that no British male had done since 1938, when he defeated Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, 6-3, 6-4, 3-6, 7-5 to advance to the final round of the 2012 Wimbledon Tournament. If he is able to pull off another victory on Sunday, he will become the first British male to win the Wimbledon Championship since Fred Perry won the tournament in 1936.

However, it will not be an easy task as Roger Federer will be waiting for him in the finals and is one win away from winning his seventh Wimbledon title, recording an all-time 6-1 record in the final. Federer is the only man in history to reach eight finals at the All England Club.

If Federer wins on Sunday, he will also regain the No. 1 ranking in the world.

Wimbledon 2012: Roger Federer Defeats Novak Djokovic In Semifinal

Roger Federer was the first player to key his way into the finals at Wimbledon. After a long day filled with occasional rain showers, Federer was able to stop his streak of finishing short of a finals appearance for two straight years after he beat Novak Djokovic in the semi 6-3, 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 on Friday.

It was a close one, not only because Federer had struggled so mightily in matches earlier in the tournament before even getting to the semifinal to face No. 1 seeded Djokovic, but because the sets were kept so close right up until he was able to pull away at the end of the third set. The final set was no contest to punch Federer's ticket to the final match.

In this year's final, Federer will be playing to get the No. 1 ranking in the world back in his court as well as earn his seventh Wimbledon title and 17th major title overall.

Jo-Wilfried Tsonga will take on Andy Murray next to determine the other finalist.

2012 Wimbledon Live TV Schedule For Wednesday, July 4

After a bit of rain earlier in the week, the men's quarterfinal matches are set to begin on Wednesday from London, England as the 2012 Wimbledon Championships roll on.

Top-seeded men's player Novak Djokovic has what appears to be a primrose path to the semifinals at 7:00 a.m. ET on Wednesday morning, as he will face No. 31 seed Florian Mayer, the lowest-rated player remaining in the field. Also starting at the exact same time over on the Center Court is No. 3 seed Roger Federer's match with No. 26 Mikhail Youzhny.

The head-to-head battle of the day might just come from the latter of the two Center Court matches, as local favorite Andy Murray and Spain's David Ferrer will face off in a battle of top-10 seeds. Both players enter their Wednesday afternoon quarterfinal showdown with Grand Slam title aspirations, but neither man has ever advanced beyond the semifinals on Wimbledon's grass. Murray, who revealed that he actually meditated on Wimbledon's courts in the months leading up to the event to gain a mental edge, could be in line for an epic showdown with Federer in the semifinals if each man is successful on Wednesday.

Live coverage will begin at 6:00 a.m. ET on ESPN2, and will run uninterrupted until 3:00 p.m. Shortly after the ESPN2 telecast opens, Center Court men's coverage over on ESPN can also be viewed at 7:00 a.m., which will run concurrently until 3:00 p.m. As always, in addition to the live TV broadcast, the action can be viewed online at Watch ESPN, or at Wimbledon.com's official website.

Wimbledon 2012: Brian Baker's Magical Run Comes To End

On Tuesday, Brian Baker's magical run through the 2012 Wimbledon Tournament came to an end when he fell to Philipp Kohlschreiber in straight sets, 6-1, 7-6, 6-3.

In what was Baker's first Wimbledon appearance, the American had plenty of chances to turn the table on Kohlschreiber but failed to capitalize on his opportunities. Kohlschreiber converted on all three of his break points, while Baker was 0-5 on his. While Kohlschreiber's serve wasn't accurate on Tuesday, it was effective, as he tallied 23 aces in the match.

Kohlschreiber will move onto the Quarterfinal round and has the benefit of not having to face Rafael Nadal due to his early elimination from this year's tournament.

Wimbledon 2012: Mardy Fish Eliminated In Round 4

On Tuesday afternoon, Minnesota native Mardy Fish was eliminated in the fourth round of the 2012 Wimbledon Tournament when the No. 5 seeded Jo-Wilfred Tsonga defeated him, 4-6, 7-6 (4), 6-4, 6-4. Despite his back bothering him and several rain delays, Tsonga was able to advance to the Quarterfinal round after a rocky first set.

Fish was playing in his first tournament since having a procedure on his heart in late May and was trying to reach the Wimbledon quarterfinals for the second year in a row. Now Tsonga will hope to advance to the Semifinal and will in all likely hood have to deal with rain through the rest of the tournament.

Wimbledon 2012: Andy Murray Advances With Win Over Milan Cilic

On Monday, Andy Murray finally had the chance to finish his match against Milan Cilic that had been postponed on Monday due to rain. Despite the frustration he felt with the postponement, it was well worth the wait as Murray advanced to the Quarterfinal round of the 2012 Wimbledon Tournament with the straight set victory, 7-5, 6-2, 6-3.

However, it didn't change that Murray was irritated with all the starting and stopping that occurred prior to the match's resolution because of the rain.

Via ESPN.com:

"We stopped obviously a lot," Murray said. "You're always a little bit edgy when you come out after a rain delay when you have the momentum with you. You stop, and then you come back out, and it feels a bit like you start from scratch again. I needed to serve well today and I got a lot of free points that helped me out."

Wimbledon 2012: Mardy Fish's Match With Jo-Wilfried Tsonga Delayed...Again

For the second time in as many days, Minnesota native Mardy Fish's fourth-round Wimbledon match with Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga has been delayed due to rain.

Fish won the first set on Monday and was tied 1-1 in the second before rain postponed action until Tuesday. Fish and Tsonga proceeded to finish the second and third sets, but things were called off six games into the fourth set.

Tsonga won the second set 7-6 (7-4) and the third set 6-4. Tsonga is also leading in the fourth, 4-2, which means Fish's Wimbledon run is on the brink.

There were, however, some matches that wrapped up Tuesday. Serena Williams (US) was a straight-set winner over defending champion Petra Kvitova (Czech Republic), and Andy Murray (Britain) offed Marin Cilic (Croatia) in straight sets.

Wimbledon 2012: Novak Djokovic Advances With Win Over Viktor Troicki

Despite the Women's brackets No. 1 seed being eliminated when Maria Sharapova was upset by Sabine Lisicki, the Men's No. 1 was able to advance to the Quarterfinal round of the 2012 Wimbledon Tournament when Novak Djokovic defeated Viktor Troicki in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1, 6-3.

Djokovic eliminated his opponent with relative ease, as the tournament's top seed defeated his fellow countryman by scoring on 81 percent of eligible first serves for the match, notching 31 winners to his opponent's 15 and winning six of his eight break point opportunities while being broken just once in three sets.

The victory acts as a signal to the rest of the field that Djokovic is the man to beat in this year's tournament, as he is looking to defend his win at the 2011 Wimbledon tournament.

Wimbledon 2012: Maria Sharapova Upset In Round 4

Coming off her first win at the French Open, newly crowned Grand Slam champion Maria Sharapova appeared to be on a roll entering the 2012 Wimbledon Tournament. Defeating virtually every opponent she faced at the French Open in dominating fashion, the world's No. 1 ranked tennis player looked to be a force at the All England Club this year.

However, all that momentum ended up meaning little when she was upset by Germany's Sabine Lisicki, allowing the latter to advance to the quarterfinals with a 6-4, 6-3 victory in straight sets.

Lisicki, the No. 15 seed in the draw, will face Angelique Kerber who defeated Kim Clijsters in dominating fashion, 6-1, 6-1, in her bid to advance to the quarterfinals.

Wimbledon Scores 2012: Serena Williams Advances To Next Round

On Monday afternoon, Serena Williams advanced to the Quarterfinals round of the 2012 Wimbledon Tournament by defeating Yaroslava Shvedova, 6-1, 2-6, 7-5 on Court 2 in the morning's first match.

Serena's sister Venus was surprisingly eliminated in the first round of the tournament and at times, Serena appeared as though she would be joining her on the sidelines.

However, Williams managed to pull it together after a difficult second set in order to reach the next round. Williams will now face the winner of the match between Francesca Schiavone and Petra Kvitova in the quarterfinals. SB Nation's own Bill Connelly predicts that match should go the way of Kvitova, setting up Williams with Wimbledon's reigning champ.

2012 Wimbledon Live TV Schedule For Monday

Week two of the 2012 Wimbledon Championships will begin on Monday morning in London, England, as the 16 remaining men's and women's players will each try to stay in the tournament and advance to the final eight.

Looking to continue his impressive run through men's tennis, No. 1 seed Novak Djokovic will take on fellow Serbian Viktor Troicki in the final match of the day on Centre Court. Kicking the day's action off on the marquee court well before Djokovic is scheduled to get things underway is fellow contender Roger Federer, who will face Belgium's Xavier Malisse at 7:00 a.m. ET.

In one of the day's more intriguing head-to-head men's matches, No. 5 seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga will meet up with No. 10 seeded Mardy Fish of the United States. Fish advanced to the quarterfinal of last year's tournament before losing to runner-up Rafael Nadal, but has still yet to reach the final four of a Grand Slam in his career.

In the women's draw, No. 1 seed and 2012 French Open champ Maria Sharapova remains the favorite of a crowded bunch, but will need to get past Germany's Sabine Lisicki in her 7:00 a.m. match on Court No. 1 if she plans to pull off her second consecutive major title. Sliding under the radar a bit after a disastrous effort in last month's French Open, Serena Williams, the sixth-ranked women's seed, faces an extremely manageable opponent in unranked Kazakastan player Yaroslava Shvedova on Monday. Williams will open the action on Court No. 2 at 6:30 a.m..

Live television coverage of Monday's round of 16 can be seen on ESPN, and will start at 6:00 a.m. and run until 4:00 p.m. Along with an online stream available via Watch ESPN, Wimbledon.com will offer streaming video that also includes looped content peppered in between matches.

Wimbledon 2012 Results: Mardy Fish Shakes Off Poor Performance By Besting David Goffin In Straight Sets

Minnesota's Mardy Fish had a very tough matchup in round two. Or rather, he had a tough time with someone he was expected to handily beat. James Ward took Fish to five sets, and left him somewhat tired out for an eventual matchup with David Goffin in the third round. Fortunately for Fish, he played much better than he did against Ward and took home a win in straight sets, though sets two and three were tiebreaks.

The final score was 6-3, 7-6 (8-6), 7-6 (8-6). Fish struggled so much with Ward because he has such a great return, and his serve also happened to be off. It was a combination that also cost him his match. But against Goffin, Fish had 64 percent of his first serves in, and won 89 percent of his first serve points.

Topping out at 131 miles per hour, his first serve was definitely what did it for him. But he also returned very well. Goffin actually had more of his first serves in, but only won 75 percent of his first serve points. Fish will now move on to the next round, where he'll take on Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. That's a very tough matchup, to be sure. Tsonga is the No. 5 seed for the tournament.

Wimbledon 2012: Novak Djokovic, Maria Sharapova Advance On Friday

Despite the overwhelming amount of upsets that have occurred at the 2012 Wimbledon Championship, the two No. 1 seeded players in the tournament, Novak Djokovic and Maria Sharapova, both managed to advance to round four on Friday.

Sharapova had little troubled putting away her opponent, the unseeded Su-Wei Hsieh by putting her away in straight sets, 6-1, 6-4. In the second set, Hsieh battled back but Sharapova quickly squelched any thought of a come back.

Djokovic did not have as easy a time with his opponent, the No. 28 seed Radek Stepanek as he dropped the first set 4-6. However, Djokovic quickly collected himself before the second set and rolled in three straight sets to win the match, 4-6, 6-2, 6-2, 6-2.

The entire Friday docket can be found at Wimbledon's official site.

2012 Wimbledon: Sam Querrey Upsets Milos Raonic

While it may have not have come close to the level of surprise that came with Lukas Rosol's upset of Rafael Nadal, Friday's upset of Milos Raonic by Sam Querrey was an impressive accomplishment for the unseeded player.

Querry was able to dispatch No. 21 seeded Raonic in four impressive sets, 6-7 (3-7), 7-6 (9-7), 7-6 (10-8), 6-4. With three of the sets being forced to tiebreakers, Querry displayed a level of commitment and mental determination to advance to the next round of the 2012 Wimbledon Championship.

Querrey has never made it past the fourth round of any Grand Slam event. He will hope to do so this year.

Wimbledon 2012 Results: Mardy Fish Struggles, But Bests James Ward In Five Sets

It was a tough outing and lasted a lot longer than he wanted, but Mardy Fish pulled it out and advanced to the third round of the Wimbledon Championships with a five-set victory over James Ward. Fish started off well, taking a rudimentary first set by a score of 6-3, but faltered in the second when he fell behind the Brit and dropped that one 7-5.

Fish struggled mightily with his first serve, and that's what hurt him the most. Ward has always been good returning, and Fish was reduced to a 51% on his first serves in, but he did with 79% of his first serve points, so when he was on, he was effective. He also had 33 unforced errors, five more than his opponent.

He did go on to win the third set 6-4, and but lost a tiebreak in the fourth set after seemingly having it in the bag. He was winning the fourth set but was broken by Ward and eventually dropped it 7-6 (7-3) Still, he rallied strong and bested Ward in the fifth set without much issue, taking it 6-3.

Fish will next take on David Goffin, who advanced after beating Jesse Levin 4-6, 6-4, 6-1, 6-3.

2012 Wimbledon Live TV Schedule: Mardy Fish Among Those Taking The Court Thursday

Among the slew of second-round matches at Wimbledon on Thursday, Minnesota native Mardy Fish is taking on Britain's James Ward.

Wimbledon coverage began at 6 a.m. Central and will run until 4 p.m. Central. TV coverage is available at ESPN2, while online streaming is available at Wimbledon.com.

Fish was a straight-set winner in his opening-round victory over Spaniard Ruben Ramirez. He is scheduled for an 8 a.m. Central start Thursday.

Fish, who was recently diagnosed with an irregular heartbeat, said that even after his opening-round romp, he's not feeling entirely confident heading into Round 2.

From the UK's Daily Record:

"The toughest part is my confidence.

"When I don't feel well right now, I think of the struggles I've had in the past couple of months.

"Hopefully that will change but at the moment when I don't feel perfect I get into a bit of trouble."

In other second-round action, Rafael Nadal (Spain) take on Lukas Rosol (Czech Republic), also at 8 a.m. Central.

In women's action, Maria Sharapova (Russia) and Serena Williams (US) started their respective matches early Thursday morning.

The entire Thursday docket can be found at Wimbledon's official site.

Wimbledon 2012 Scores: Maria Sharapova Postponed; Caroline Wozniacki, Sam Stosur Upset

On Wednesday, Maria Sharapova's match against Tsvetana Pironkova was suspended due to fading light and will be resumed on Thursday. Sharapova took the first set 7-6 (10), and led 3-1 in the second set before play was suspended. Sharapova had won a break when play was ended and will serve when the match resumes on Thursday.

While Sharapova will be guaranteed to play at least one more day, the same can not be said for two other high seeded women as Caroline Wozniacki and Sam Stosur were both upset in their matches.

No. 7 seeded Wozniacki fell to Austria's Tamira Paszek in three sets, 5-7, 7-6 (11), 6-4. The match was carried over from Tuesday night and picked up tied 2-2 in the first set prior to Paszek willing her way to the win.

The No. 5 seeded Stosur fell to her opponent, Arantxa Rus, 6-2, 0-6, 6-4. After dropping the first set, Stosur looked like she was on the ropes prior to battling back in the second set. Ultimately, Stosur seemed to lose her composure and ended up losing the match.

Wimbledon 2012: Andy Roddick, Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer Advance On Wednesday

Andy Roddick was finally able to complete his first round match against Jamie Baker on Wednesday when he defeated his opponent, 7-6 (8), 6-4, 7-5 after their match was postponed due to fading light. Roddick is now the second-highest American remaining in the tournament, next to No. 12 Mardy Fish.

No. 1 seeded Novak Djokovic also advanced on Wednesday when he defeated Ryan Harrison in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4. While it may appear like Djokovic had little trouble with Harrison, the American gave the top seed quite a fight.

Roger Federer had a far easier time punching his ticket to the next round when he defeated opponent Fabio Fognini in three dominating sets, 6-1, 6-3, 6-2. Federer will now advance to the third round without having faced a significant challenge thus far in the tournament.

Wimbledon 2012: Minnesota Native Mardy Fish Battles Issues At Wimbledon

For most of the competitors at the 2012 Wimbledon tournament, their biggest concern is the other players and trying to find a way to make it to the final. For Minnesota native Mardy Fish, his toughest battle comes against himself.

When Fish managed to defeat Spaniard Ruben Ramirez-Hidalgo in straight sets 7-6 (7-3), 7-5, 7-6 (7-1), it marked the first time in two and a half months that Fish had participated in competition. The reason for that was because the tenth seeded Fish had to undergo a medical procedure in May to try and pinpoint an accelerated heartbeat.

Via SFGate.com:

During a match, he says, "The more you keep your mind off it, the better."

Following his win Tuesday, Fish declined to talk to reporters because he wasn't feeling well, which had many speculating that it has something to do with his heart. However, Fish clarified that it was merely a stomach illness that was a by-product of pain medication he is taking for his right arm.

Fish will play James Ward in the second round of the tournament.

Murray, the No. 2 ranked Men's player in the world, defeated No. 47 Nikolay Davydenko, 6-1, 6-1, 6-4, at Centre Court. Murray broke Davydenko six times over the course of the match, including three times in the first set alone.

Azarenka eliminated American Irina Falconi, 6-1, 6-4, on Court No. 1. Azarenka was sloppy on her serve, committing nine double faults. She made up for it by breaking Falconi six times in nine chances and scoring on 59 percent of the serves she received.

In addition to Nadal, Serena Williams also won her first round match against Barbora Zahlahova in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4. 2012 Wimbledon: Novak Djokovic Practical Joke Fails Miserably

On Monday afternoon, the world's No. 1 ranked tennis player, Novak Djokovic defeated Juan Carlos Ferraro 6-3, 6-3, 6-1 to advance to the second round of the 2012 WImbledon Championship. Before doing so, Djokovic decided to pull a practical joke on the crowd by removing a mini-golf club, instead of his racket, from his bag.

The crowd did not respond as Djokovic would have liked.

Courtesy of SB Nation's main site:

"It was a little joke we wanted to do with my sponsor. They provided me with a junior golf club because the bags look like golf bags. You can place them the way the golf bag is standing," Djokovic told the Associated Press after he took a child's golf club from his tennis bag and placed it on the sideline before facing Juan Carlos Ferraro. The spectators were not amused.

"So it was a little funny thing. Being creative, that's all," Djokovic said about his prank that registered just this side of "meh" on the fun-o-meter. "But the fans corrected me right away. They said, 'This is not a golf course'. I said, ‘Okay.'"

You can see a video of the stunt, here.

Wimbledon 2012: Mardy Fish Looking To Avoid Struggles Of Other Top Seeds

The first day of the 2012 Wimbledon Championships is wrapping up, and Minnesota's Mardy Fish was able to relax and watch some of the top seeds struggle, as he's not scheduled to begin until Tuesday. Day 1 saw Venus Williams on the Ladies side of the bracket, falling 6-1, 6-3 to Elena Vesnina as the high profile upset of the day, but the men's side saw some struggles from the top-end, as well.

John Isner found himself in another five set match, much to nobody's surprise against Alejandro Falla. At the time of writing, Isner is trailing 6-5 in the fifth set and the odds are currently overwhelmingly in the favor of another multi-day match. In all seriousness, the struggles aren't entirely surprising given the strong serving of Falla and the struggles Isner has had returning of late.

Outside of Isner, the No. 6-seeded Tomas Berdych finds himself down two sets and trailing in the third at the time of writing. Berdych lost both of the first two sets to Ernests Gulbis in a tiebreak and he's struggling in the third.

Needless to say, Mardy Fish certainly would rather have a day like, say, Roger Federer, the No. 3 seed for the tournament. Federer won his match against Albert Ramos in straight sets 6-1, 6-1, 6-1. Or perhaps he'd rather have a day like Novak Djokovic, who bested Juan Carlos Ferrero in straight sets as well, winning 6-3, 6-3, 6-1.

Fish is set to take on Ruben Ramirez Hidalgo on Tuesday to open up his play in the tournament. Don't forget to check out SI.com's Scoreboard to keep track of all matches throughout the tournament.

Wimbledon 2012 News: Kim Clijsters To Play In Famed Tournament For Final Time

A four-time Grand Slam winner who has never made it past the semifinals at Wimbledon, 29-year-old Kim Clijsters will officially have one final crack at the season's 3rd major tournament this year before hanging up her racquet for good.

Clijsters confirmed to reporters on Sunday that the 2012 event would indeed be her final trip to Wimbledon as a competitor, as she simply doesn't feel like the same player athletically that she was in her prime. One of only three mothers to own a Grand Slam title, the former No. 1 cited age as her main reason. "Too old to play the game that I want to play physically," Clijsters told the Associated Press. "I've put my body through enough strain and everything."

An unranked Clijsters will face a stout test in No. 18 seed Serbia's Jelena Jankovic in the opening round, but the Belgian champ has certainly defied the odds before, and will definitely be looking to end her Wimbledon career on a high note.

Roger Federer will begin play against Albert Ramos as he attempts to collect his seventh championship at Wimbledon.
