University Of Minnesota Diver Kelci Bryant Wins Synchronized Diving Silver Medal

A long standing drought of medals for the United States in diving events was broken by a diver from the University of Minnesota on Sunday, Kelci Bryant. Along with her partner Abigail Johnston, Bryant took home the silver medal in Sunday's 3-meter synchronized diving event.

Though there will still be plenty more chances during the games for the Americans to pick up some more medals in the diving competitions, the first one was special because the USA hadn't earned a medal in any diving since the Sydney games in 2000:

Johnston and Kelci Bryant finished second with 321.90 points, ending the country's diving medal drought that extended to the 2000 Sydney Games. It was the first Olympic synchro medal for the Americans.

"Our curse is out of the way," said Bryant, who finished fourth in springboard synchro with a different partner in Beijing.

The Chinese team of Wu Minxia and He Zi took home the gold medal in the event, continuing their dominance of the sport in recent years. The Bronze medal went to Emilie Heymans and Jennifer Abel, a Canadian duo.
