Vikings Training Camp: WR Michael Jenkins Takes Salary Reduction To Hopefully Stay With Minnesota

According to Tom Pelissero of ESPN 1550 in the Twin Cities, Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Michael Jenkins has taken a pay cut in order to increase his chances of making the 2012 roster. Jenkins was scheduled to make $2.5 million in base salary this season, but that has been reduced to $1 million. His $2.5 million base salary for 2013 has been cut to $825,000.

The Vikings signed Jenkins to a three-year contract in 2011, and he was paid $1 million in base salary last season. In 11 games last season before injuring his knee, Jenkins caught 38 balls for 466 yards and three touchdowns. The reduction in his salary also reduced Jenkins' cap number by about $2 million.

Despite the salary reduction, Jenkins' future with the team remains up in the air. In the team's first preseason game of 2012, he caught one pass for six yards.
