After five days of looking up at China in the standings, the United States finally took the overall medal lead at the 2012 Summer Games on Thursday with an impressive day six showing.
Among the six golds picked up by the Americans was a first place finish in women's judo for the first time in Olympic history, along with the record-setting 16th career gold medal for men's swimmer Michael Phelps with a 200m individual medley title. In addition, 16-year-old Gabby Douglas earned her first career individual medal with an impressive gold in the women's individual all-around gymnastics final.
