Tyus Jones Is Still In Mix For Minnesota

Stay connected for news and updates

The Minnesota Golden Gophers are still on five-star basketball recruit Tyus Jones' list, according to 1500 ESPN. Jones, who has been recruited by the Gophers since he was in eighth grade, will visit the campus on Sept. 22.

Jones is the No. 2 overall recruit in the Class of 2014, according to ESPN.com's Recruiting Nation. The Apple Valley, Minn. point guard is also being actively recruited by North Carolina, Kentucky, Michigan State and others. Jones is coming off of surgery to repair a torn ligament in his right thumb, which he suffered in June, but it didn't stop him from playing summer ball. However, he'll now be in a splint for four weeks after having his stitches removed on Monday.

Jones is part of a Twin Cities recruiting class that is expected to be one of the best that the area has ever seen. Robbinsdale Cooper's Rashad Vaughn has spoken with Jones about the possibility of becoming a "package deal," while DeLasalle's Reid Travis could join those talks soon.
