Kim Klement-US PRESSWIRE

Minnesota State and St. Cloud State are both in action this weekend, as college hockey resumes for the first time in 2013.

Minnesota schools will get their first taste of 2013 college hockey action this weekend as both St. Cloud State and Minnesota State are slated to play for the first time this calendar year.

Minnesota State will play host to Providence College on Friday night (7:35 p.m. CT). The Stompers are currently ranked as the No. 14 team in the country, while the Friars are just on the outside of the top 20.

St. Cloud State, ranked No. 15 in the latest NCAA poll, will play host to Northern Michigan on Saturday night (7:05 p.m. CT). Though unranked, Northern Michigan did receive votes in the latest poll.

Top-ranked Minnesota doesn't play this weekend, but will play host to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish on Tuesday, Jan. 8. Though they haven't received the amount of attention that their football team has, the Irish are ranked No. 3 in the latest NCAA hockey polls, and Tuesday night's showdown certainly is one of the season's top match-ups.
