With the conclusion of Wednesday's quarterfinal action in men's basketball at the London Olympics, we now know what the semifinals will look like.

The United States, of course featuring the Minnesota Timberwolves' Kevin Love, have drawn Argentina in the semis after defeating Australia 119-86. Argentina squeaked by Brazil with an 82-77 win on Wednesday.

Russia, featuring two Timberwolves in Andrei Kirilenko and Alexey Shved, will be matched up against Spain. Russia beat Lithuania 83-74 to advance, while Spain edged France 66-59 in a chippy affair.

Russia vs. Spain is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. CT on Friday. Team USA vs. Argentina will take place after that -- it is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. CT.

For maximum Minnesota relevance, root for the United States and Russia on Friday. The gold and bronze medal games will be played on Sunday.

The Minnesota Timberwolves' Kevin Love has been performing admirably with Team USA at the Olympics in London. Much like with the Wolves, he's been doing the dirty work under the basket while also scoring extremely efficiently.

But were you aware just how good he has been? ESPN's Tom Haberstroh has looked at the numbers and has found that being the third-leading scorer on the team doesn't quite tell the whole story (Insider):

On a per-minute basis in the Olympics, Love has scored about as often as Durant (29.3 points vs. 29.9 points per 40 minutes). He has scored more often than Bryant (28.5 points) and almost as much as James and Chris Paul combined (31.6). Overall, Love has tallied 29.3 points and 16.9 rebounds per 40 minutes in Olympic play, not to mention he's shooting 42 percent from downtown and 80 percent elsewhere. Further, he's coughed up the ball just twice in 102 minutes of playing time.

Haberstroh does note Love's obvious defensive efficiencies, which these numbers don't take into account. While defense may be the reason Tyson Chandler remains ahead of him in the big man rotation, his offense and rebounding deserve recognition.

The Minnesota Vikings anticipate that running back Adrian Peterson to will in their season opener on September 9, but they are not yet sure when they will take him off the Physically Unable to Perform list this preseason.

As of right now, Peterson is still doing strength and conditioning exercises while his teammates go through full practices in training camp. He will remain with strength coaches when the Vikings play their preseason opener in San Francisco on August 10, but he's eager to get back on the field.

"I'm just going to go with the flow," Peterson said Wednesday. "Hopefully the plan's to get back in there and slowly but surely get back into the rhythm of things. I'm excited. I've been working hard out here to get back out on the field with the guys. I'm just looking forward to being able to do that."

...

"I'm ready to get hit," Peterson insisted. "It might sound strange. Just to get that feel. It's time to get going. I know that they understand that. They've been getting good feedback. I'm sure they're as excited as I am to get back out there."

Peterson and coach Leslie Frazier were set to meet Wednesday night to discuss options moving forward. He will be re-evaluated on Sunday to determine whether or not Minnesota will activate him.

St. Cloud's Alise Post finished eighth in her BMX seeding run on Wednesday to determine her starting position on Friday's quarterfinals. She had a time of 39.890 seconds, which will put her in the first heat.

Post said she liked the course and, though she wasn't wholly satisfied with her performance, she achieved what she set out to in making the top eight, via Rachel Blount of the Star Tribune:

"I definitely think I could have been more aggressive out there,'' said Post, currently sixth among elite women in the International Cycling Union's rankings. "I definitely think there is a lot of room for improvement, which is good. I really wanted to be in the top eight, and I made that, so I'm happy with that.''

Each heat of eight riders will do four runs on Friday in the semifinals and the top four will advance to the finals, scheduled for later that day.

Sometimes in training camp, tempers flare. For the second straight day in Minnesota Vikings camp, this has been the case with receiver Percy Harvin and rookie safety Harrison Smith.

On Tuesday, Harvin caught a touchdown pass against Smith and stood over him. Smith didn't appreciate it and had some words for him. Then, on Wednesday, there was a more substantial incident, via Tom Pelissero and Judd Zulgad of 1500 ESPN:

Harvin caught a pass on a short route from Christian Ponder on the second play of a third-down drill and turned upfield, where he collided with Smith, the first-round draft pick from Notre Dame.

Players were in shells, not pads, but the collision was loud enough to draw a rise from the crowd. Harvin continued trying to run downfield. Smith didn't let up. Harvin recoiled and appeared to consider throwing the ball at Smith before going facemask to facemask with him instead.

Receiver Jerome Simpson ran downfield and shoved Smith away. Then, about a dozen other players descended on the scene -- some of them jokingly pulling each other away from the pile -- and Harvin had to be held back as Smith continued chirping.

Harvin walked off the field with a Vikings media relations official and didn't comment. Smith said he was "not really sure" what happened on the play and downplayed the exchange as part of the game.

Smith, who is trying to earn a starting job, said, "It's an aggressive sport played by aggressive people, so that stuff happens."

Morneau would have loved to have accomplished this feat earlier, but he has been hampered by injuries. He appears to be feeling good lately, though, as Monday was hit fourth multi-hit game in the last five days, via Tyler Mason of Fox Sports North:

"The more at-bats he gets and the more work he's able to do, he's putting better swings on it," Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said of Morneau. "I don't think there's any restrictions now. He's feeling pretty good. He's been playing a lot of games. We've talked about days off. We even talked about it today, having a day off, whether it's tomorrow or the next day. What's your bet? I'm betting he's not going to want one now, but we'll see."
...
"It felt great. I think I'm able to appreciate it a little bit more now," Morneau said after the game. "It was something I was probably hoping or thinking I would have reached a while ago, but I think I'm able to appreciate it. I got a little bit emotional, a little excited. I was pretty happy. It was just a good day all around."

The Minnesota Twins earned a comfortable victory over their division rival Cleveland Indians on Monday night, winning 14-3 at Progressive Field. The Twins have won four of five and eight of 11.

The game was essentially decided in the second inning. Minnesota trailed 1-0 after one, then exploded for 10 runs in the second. Josh Willingham and Justin Morneau hit back to back home runs, Ben Revere extended his hit streak to 20 games with an RBI-single, Joe Mauer added an RBI-double and Morneau came back up to add yet another RBI-single off of Cleveland starter Zach McAllister (4-4).

The Indians then pulled McAllister and then Ryan Doumit hit a three-run home run off of Josh Tomlin.

Morneau hit his second home run of the night, a two-run shot, in the sixth, to make it 12-1. Mauer stretched it to 13-1 with an RBI-double in the sixth.

Cleveland's Carlos Santana had a two-run shot in the sixth to make it 13-3, but that was it for the Indians' offense. Denard Span scored on a fielder's choice in the eighth to make it an 11-run win for the Twins.

Minnesota starter Scott Diamond (10-5) pitched seven innings, gave up seven hits and three runs (two earned) and struck out three.

The Minnesota Twins came into tonight's game at Progressive Field looking for their fourth win in five games and their eighth in 11. Early on, it looks like they're well on their way against the Cleveland Indians. Heading into the fourth inning, the Twins are up 10-1.

After falling down 1-0 when Jason Kipnis scored on a Carlos Santana groundout in the first inning, the Twins scored ten (TEN!) runs in the second.

It started with back to back solo home runs by Josh Willingham and Justin Morneau. Then Ryan Doumit scored on a Kipnis throwing error. After that, Ben Revere had an RBI-single, Joe Mauer had a two-run double and Morneau was back up for an RBI-single. That's when the Indians pulled starter Zach McAllister and replaced him with Josh Tomlin.

Tomlin immediately gave up a three-run home run to Doumit and it was 10-1. He retired the side on three groundouts in the third, however.
