According to the Associated Press, the University of Minnesota has confirmed that it was definitely Golden Gophers linebacker Gary Tinsley who was found dead in his dorm room Friday morning. The other important bit if information that has been released thus far is that university spokesman Chuck Tombarge has said that there was no indication of foul play.
Obviously, there should be more details in the future, but for now, that the new information. Tinsley was found unresponsive in his apartment, and emergency responders were unable to resuscitate him, which led to him being pronounced dead around 8:00 a.m. Friday morning.
Tinsley started all 12 games for the Gophers this past season, and finished second in the team in tackles with 87. It was his final year of eligibility and he was set to enter the 2012 NFL Draft. He played in a total of 44 games in his Gopher career, and had 198 tackles overall. According to the report from the Associated Press, there is a news conference Friday afternoon with coach Jerry Kill, quarterback MarQueis Gray and university Police Chief Greg Hestness.
