Football in Minnesota wasn't anything to get excited about last season, but the dawn of a new era is hopefully upon us following the solid draft the Minnesota Vikings put together and the pep talks Jerry Kill has been imparting on the Minnesota Golden Gophers football team.

Kill has obviously said some smart things in the past, but the Gophers head coach dropped one of the best quotes in Minnesota sports history earlier this week during a speaking engagement at Richfield High School.

Directing his advice primarily to the young people in the audience, which included starting Gophers quarterback MarQueis Gray and Trevor Olson, Kill dispensed wisdom like, "Surround yourself with good people. ... My dad used to have the saying, 'You hang around with turds, you'll finish third.'"

If he said that on Twitter, there's no doubt the #realtalk hashtag would have accompanied that bit of genius.
