Spurs Look To Continue Mastery Over Timberwolves

(Sports Network) – The San Antonio Spurs will try to continue their recent mastery of the Minnesota Timberwolves when the two Western Conference inhabitants square off tonight in the Alamo City.

San Antonio won the first meeting, 113-109, in overtime last Wednesday in the Twin Cities and is unbeaten in the past 13 meetings between the teams. The Spurs have won 22 of the last 25 games against the Timberwolves, who’ll try to end a 12-game slide as the visitor in this series.

The Spurs are kicking off a six-game homestand tonight versus the Wolves, Hornets, Warriors, Hawks, Blazers and Bucks and are 7-2 as the host. They have split their last four games since a 12-game winning streak and dropped a 90-85 decision to the Los Angeles Clippers on Wednesday from Staples Center. George Hill had 17 points to lead San Antonio, while Tim Duncan scored only eight in the loss.

“We couldn’t get anything to go down,” said Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich.

Manu Ginobili and Richard Jefferson scored 15 and 13 points, respectively, for San Antonio, which is still a dominant 15-3 on the season.

Minnesota looks to snap a five-game losing streak tonight and suffered a 100-86 setback in Dallas on Wednesday.

Michael Beasley scored 16 points and Kevin Love added 12 and 15 rebounds for the Timberwolves, who shot 39 percent from the floor and committed 17 turnovers.

“We turned the ball over way too much,” said Timberwolves head coach Kurt Rambis. “When the game ,in the third quarter, got into the 10 point range our guys still had their heads down. That was a little bit of a disappointment.”

Darko Milicic scored 12 points and grabbed eight boards in the loss.

The Timberwolves are winless in their last four road games and 1-9 outside of the Target Center this season.
