Eddy Curry Agrees To Wolves Buyout; Might Be Headed To The Heat?

The Eddy Curry in Minnesota era was over before it began. Because, after being included in last week’s trade that sent Corey Brewer to the New York Knicks, Curry and the Timberwolves have agreed to a buyout of his contract.

According to the Star Tribune’s Jerry Zgoda, this seems to mean that Curry believes that there is interest from other NBA teams the out of shape big man might takes his talents to:

The team announced during the game that they reached a buyout agreement with Eddy Curry and waived the veteran, oft-injured center by a midnight deadline that makes him eligible to sign with a team for the playoffs, if such an interested team exists.

Is there a market for a guy who’s barely played the last three seasons. Curry and his agent must think, or know, so, otherwise why would they agree to a buyout rather than just make the Wolves waive him and pay off the rest of his $11.2 million (for which the Wolves have received $3 million from the Knicks)?

Current rumors report that both the Boston Celtics and Miami Heat might be interested, but SB Nation’s NBA crew has already found 60 other players that the Heat would be better off signing.

Carmelo Anthony Trade: Anthony Randolph Dossier

Well, as long as we're waiting to see where Corey Brewer is going or whatever else the Minnesota Timberwolves gave up in order to facilitate the Carmelo Anthony trade, let's take a look at the piece that Minnesota acquired that is actually important to them.

Anthony Randolph is a 6'11", 225-pound forward that is now on his third team in three NBA seasons. After one year at Louisiana State University, he was selected by the Golden State Warriors with the fourteenth pick in the 2008 NBA Draft. Randolph played his first two seasons for the Warriors. He averaged 7.9 points and 5.6 rebounds per game as a rookie, and improved those numbers to 11.6 points and 6.5 rebounds a game in his second year.

This past off-season, Randolph was traded to the New York Knicks as a part of the package that sent forward David Lee to Golden State. In New York, he was pretty much wasting away on the bench, having only appeared in 17 games, and only averaging 2.1 points and 2.4 rebounds per game.

Randolph will probably get a much greater opportunity to assert himself in Minnesota, and will get to put some of his untapped potential to use. He is said to have very good athletic ability and ball-handling skills for a big man.

Chris Broussard Now Reporting Corey Brewer To New York, Not Denver

Contrary to the Yahoo! Sports report that we posted a few minutes ago, Chris Broussard of ESPN is reporting that Corey Brewer is actually going to the New York Knicks as part of this Carmelo Anthony trade, not to the Denver Nuggets.

Knicks also getting Corey Brewer from Minnesota in the three- team trade. Curry and Randolph go to Minnyless than a minute ago via Echofon

For the record, the Timberwolves haven't really said anything as of yet.

It appears that the Timberwolves will be acquiring Anthony Randolph and Eddy Curry. . .exactly what assets they gave up and where those assets are going is still a point of conjecture, but hopefully the full picture will be coming into focus sooner rather than later.

Yahoo! Sports Reporting Corey Brewer To Denver In Anthony Trade

Yahoo! Sports is indeed reporting that Corey Brewer will be sent to the Denver Nuggets as part of the Carmelo Anthony trade. The Denver Post is reporting the same.

Essentially, from a Timberwolves' perspective, they've traded Corey Brewer for Anthony Randolph and Eddy Curry. The rumors that had been circulated over the weekend had the Wolves also sending a first round pick away as part of the deal, but none of the outlets that have been reporting on the trade have mentioned anything along those lines yet.

Again, this story is still developing, so we'll have more on it as things happen.

NBA Trade Rumors: Wolves Looking At Acquiring Steve Nash From The Suns?

The biggest NBA trade rumors surrounding the Minnesota Timberwolves this past week have involved sending Corey Brewer away in some sort of package that would net Anthony Randolph from the Knicks as part of a three-team Carmelo Anthony trade, but Minnesota is now reportedly looking into being a much bigger part of a trade by acquiring point guard Steve Nash from the Phoenix Suns.

The Wolves, the one team in the NBA most would assume needs anything but a point guard considering their recent drafts, are said to be interested in the point guard as a mentor to Ricky Rubio according to ESPN’s Marc Stein.

The Wolves, sources say, have called Phoenix as much as anyone, despite that they’re well aware Nash has only one year left on his contract after this season and have to presume he’d have little interest in a long-term stay in Minnesota.

[…]

Have to applaud Minnesota for its ambition, though. I’ve likewise heard, despite all the factors listed here that make us question why the Wolves would even bother chasing Nash, they have not offered Rubio to the Suns for a different reason. In the Wolves’ Nash fantasy, I’m told, they dream of constructing a multi-team deal that brings Nash to Sota as a mentor for Rubio.

Is acquiring Nash for one season of grooming Rubio, a player who has been compared to the face of Phoenix in the past, worth it? I guess it probably depends what sort of package the Wolves would have to give up.

Either way, at least it seems like Minnesota is working to get better.

Carmelo Anthony Trade: Nuggets May Wait Until Deadline To Make A Move

How excited is everyone for the Carmelo Anthony trade to finally happen? I know that I'm personally sick of all the rumors and speculation, I'd like to see something come of it eventually. According to Mitch Lawrence of the New York Daily News, we might not reach a resolution until the trade deadline, as the Nuggets continue to wait in an effort to drive the price up.

"The plan is to wait until as close to the 24th as they can, and see what other teams are going to offer between now and then," a person with knowledge of the Nuggets' plans said last night. "They're in no rush."

Ugh, why not? Can't we just get this show on the road please? I've got other things to write about, you know.

As for the teams that might be landing him, Lawrence still identifies the Knicks as the most likely destination, but identifies a sleeper team that might swoop in at the last second and steal him away.

The Bulls are seen as a potential last-minute destination for Anthony, who has listed Chicago behind New York as a preferred destination and would sign long-term to play alongside Derrick Rose and Carlos Boozer. Luol Deng or Taj Gibson could be in a package for Anthony.

The Bulls would likely have to part with Joakim Noah to land 'Melo. So they are facing a similar dilemma that the Lakers are facing. Is it worth parting with a very effective big man for a star wingman? We'll find out how the teams answer that question in the coming weeks.

Carmelo Anthony Trade: 'Melo Might Be Staying In Denver After All

With all the rumors that have surfaced over the last few months about where Carmelo Anthony might land, trading him seemed like it was all but a certainty because he wouldn't be accepting an extension with the Nuggets. But we've seen many times in the past that teams have let their superstars walk in free agency without recouping anything in return *cough* The Heatles *cough*.

According to Chris Dempsey of the Denver Post, that may be the path the Nuggets are prepared to head down with Carmelo Anthony, despite everything you've heard.

Those close to the situation say there is a better-than-average chance Anthony will not be dealt until after the season. But that option isn't the best way to collect a significant amount of future assets for the forward. Yet, if the Nuggets are going to get something similar now to what they could get in the offseason, they will opt to keep the team intact and see what it can do in the playoffs.

That seems like a situation in which everyone loses. Nuggets fans who know that they aren't good enough to win a championship and realize that Carmelo will probably be walking for nothing more than a trade exception and a draft pick this summer. Fans of the teams that Carmelo Anthony could get dealt to that are seeing those dreams evaporate. And fans of NBA chaos that are enjoying the turmoil that these rumors bring to the game. Lose, lose, lose.

But like every rumor that has been associated with this trade, I'm sure this one will change in the next few hours too. So stay tuned.

Carmelo Anthony Trade: Timberwolves Proposal Still 'Alive' As Lakers Enter Discussions

The three-way trade discussions involving the Minnesota Timberwolves facilitating Denver Nuggets forward Carmelo Anthony’s movement to the New York Knicks have a new wrinkle: the L.A. Lakers might be involved, according to a new report from ESPN’s Chris Broussard. Broussard says Los Angeles has had “preliminary discussions” with the Nuggets involving Anthony, and is willing to send productive, if injury prone, center Andrew Bynum to Denver.

Previously, the Timberwolves were rumored to send forward Corey Brewer and a future first-round draft choice to the Nuggets, with Anthony going to the Knicks and Minnesota receiving Eddy Curry’s expiring contract and young big man Anthony Randolph from New York. These discussions, say Broussard, are “very much alive” despite the Lakers’ interest in Anthony and another report saying the Timberwolves’ proposal is unlikely to happen.

Curry, 28, is more valuable for his expiring contract than his play. He’s not logged a single minute this season and has appeared in just 10 games since the 2008/09 season. Randolph, 21, is the more desirable player for Minnesota. On an affordable, rookie-scale contract for this season and next, the 21-year-old has career averages of 8.2 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 1.2 blocked shots.

Carmelo Anthony Trade: League Sources Reportedly Say Proposed Three-Way Trade 'Not Close'

There have been so many rumored Carmelo Anthony trades that it's hard to believe that anything will get completed until it actually happens. That is the case with this most recent three-way proposal involving the Timberwolves as well. ESPN reported on Saturday that the talks were progressing. Now, Chris Mannix of SI warns that the rumored deal is "not close," according to league sources.

"The package New Jersey offered was so much stronger than this," the executive said. "To me this feels like Denver trying to lure other teams to the table."

This is the part of the trade that makes me wonder how legitimate this rumor is. The package that the Nuggets were set to receive if they sent Carmelo to the Nets included Derrick Favors and multiple first round picks. While this rumored trade only includes Wilson Chandler and a single first rounder. Based on value alone, the New Jersey trade was much stronger for the Nuggets, and they weren't even willing to do that one.

Of course, there is plenty of time for this trade to mature before the trade deadline later this month.

Carmelo Anthony Trade: Timberwolves Reportedly Involved In Possible Three-Way Deal

Carmelo Anthony has been trying to get to New York since this summer, and if a rumored trade finally comes through, he could finally make it. The newest trade rumor is that the Nuggets and Knicks are working on a three-way deal to bring Carmelo to New York, and would reportedly involve the Minnesota Timberwolves.

According to Chris Broussard of ESPN, the Timberwolves would send a first-round pick and Corey Brewer to Denver in exchange for Knicks forward Anthony Randolph.

In the proposed trade, New York would send Anthony Randolph and Eddy Curry to Minnesota and the Timberwolves would send Corey Brewer and a first-round pick to Denver. Denver would also receive Wilson Chandler from New York.

it seems like an awful steep price to pay for Anthony Randolph, whose value has dropped significantly since arriving in New York this summer. But it's important to remember that it might not be the Timberwolves' own first-round pick that gets moved, but rather one of the lesser picks that the Wolves own from other teams.  But that might not be enough for the Nuggets to ship out Melo.

The Knicks have been trying to include Anthony Randolph in a trade for Carmelo Anthony for a while now, but the Nuggets don't seem to be interested in Randolph as the center piece of any trade for their superstar. So it makes sens that they might try to send him to a third team in exchange for a first round pick that the Nuggets covet.

Eddy Curry would only be included in the deal as an expiring contract, and might not ever suit up for the Timberwolves if he is traded here.

Broussard also includes this however, which should temper the expectations of anyone who is counting on this deal to go through.

A Timberwolves source told ESPN The Magazine's Ric Bucher on Sunday that the team would not approve of a deal where the team received just New York's Randolph and Curry with Brewer and a first-rounder heading to Denver.

But that could just be a smoke screen. We won't know if this deal really has a chance of happening until it either goes through, or the trade deadline passes without it happening.

The Nuggets just beat the Timberwolves yesterday 113-100 behind 25 points from Carmelo.
