Timberwolves Involved In Trade Talks With Cavs And Pistons For Draft Picks

The Minnesota Timberwolves have been saying quite a bit that they would rather have a veteran leader rather than young prospects, but the latest NBA trade rumors -- provided by ESPN's Chris Broussard -- have Wolves' president of basketball operation David Kahn talking to both the Cleveland Cavaliers and Detroit Pistons discussing swapping picks in next month's NBA Draft.

The Wolves are apparently involved in a three-team trade discussion that would send their No. 2 overall pick to the Cavs while receiving Cleveland's No. 4 pick and the Pistons' No. 8 picks in return. The other part of the trade, which would conclude with the Cavs getting both the first and second picks in the Draft, would be the Cavs taking on Rip Hamilton and his $14.8 million salary in return for Detroit's first round pick (No. 8 overall).

According to Broussard, the Cavs would then select Duke's Kyrie Irivng with the first pick and Arizona's Derrick Williams with the second pick.

The trade doesn't make a lot of sense for the Wolves -- unless Kentucky's Enes Kanter is still there at four, perhaps -- but it is rather interesting to confirm that Kahn's in discussion to move the Wolves' top pick since owner Glen Taylor has already said he expects the team to keep that pick.
