Timberwolves Vs. Hornets Final: Minnesota Drops Fifth Straight To Lowly Hornets 99-90

The Minnesota Timberwolves couldn't muster enough of a comeback in the fourth quarter, and fell 99-90 to the lowly New Orleans Hornets on Saturday night at The Hive.

The T-Wolves opened the final quarter on a 15 to 4 run, and appeared to be sweeping the rug right out from under the inexperienced Hornets squad. A slew of clutch shots by New Orleans guard Greivis Vasquez, who led all players with 10 assists, changed the tune though, and made any meaningful Minnesota run unsustainable.

Forward Kevin Love finished with game-highs of 29 points and 12 rebounds, while teammate Michael Beasley chipped in 20 points and seven boards off the bench. Aside from Love and Beasley however, Minnesota players combined to shoot just 31.9% as a team.

New Orleans' low post duo of Chris Kaman and Jason Smith, who each measure in at seven-feet tall, combined for 57 points, 20 rebounds, four blocks and four steals. The two also shot a remarkable 21-for-26 from the floor and perfect 5-for-5 from the charity stripe.

Timberwolves Vs. Hornets Score Update: Minnesota Trails 46-41 At Half

The Minnesota Timberwolves are in real danger of losing to the worst team in the Western Conference on Saturday, and are behind 46-41 to the New Orleans Hornets after two quarters.

Minnesota's starting backcourt of J.J. Barea and Martell Webster have each combined to shoot just 2-for-10 from the field, on a night where the Timberwolves are hitting just 22.2% from behind the arc. Sixth man Michael Beasley has been the lone boost off the bench with eight points and three rebounds, but has turned the ball over a team-high two times.

The combination of New Orleans big men Chris Kaman (10 points, 3 blocks) and Jason Smith (16 points, 6 rebounds) has proved to be too much for Kevin Love and company to handle on the inside. Because of this, the Hornets hold a 24-15 rebounding advantage, and have also been more effective on the offensive glass.
