NBA Free Agency: Timberwolves Officially Amnesty Darko Milicic

It was reported early on Thursday that the Minnesota Timberwolves would use the NBA's amnesty clause on center Darko Milicic. He had a lot of trouble staying on the court, and was one of the league's worst offenders when it came to fouls. The team liked what he was able to do when he was playing meaningful minutes, it's just that there was a shortage of those.

Now, the news is official, as per the NBA's official website. The amnesty provision allows a team to waive one player and now have his salary count against the salary cap or the league's luxury tax. It's likely that the Timberwolves would have kept Milicic if not for the fact that they're targeting Nicolas Batum, as they've offered him a contract in the $40 million range.

Milicic did start 92 of his 98 games over the past two seasons with Minnesota, but the seven-foot Milicic hasn't had much success with any of the five NBA teams he's played for since coming into the league in 2003.
