Twins Vs. Tigers Final Score: Justin Morneau Powers Minnesota Past Detroit, 4-3

The Minnesota Twins picked up some much-needed momentum with a 4-3 win over Detroit on Thursday, effectively capping a brief, albeit important, two-game sweep over the playoff-contending Tigers in the process.

The Twins' offense opened things up in the third inning behind a two-run homer from the bat of Justin Morneau that plated Josh Willingham. Outfielder Trevor Plouffe followed suit later in the frame with a solo shot of his own to give the Twins an early 3-0 advantage, and Morneau tallied his third RBI of the day in the fifth to extend the lead a run further while the Tigers were held scoreless.

Aside from three solo home runs yielded over the fifth and sixth innings by starter P.J. Walters as he began to tire, it was a very clean day for Minnesota pitching. Closer Matt Capps came in to record his eighth save of the season with a 1-2-3 ninth, but not after 1.2 innings of no-hit ball from relievers Francisco Liriano and Glen Perkins.

The Twins will hope to build on their short winning streak on Friday to kick off a three-game set in Milwaukee. Red-hot lefty Scott Diamond will take the mound as Minnesota aims to make it three straight victories.

Nick Blackburn, Not Ryan Doumit, Heading To Disabled List For Twins

The Minnesota Twins were expected to place catcher Ryan Doumit on the disabled list, but they've since pulled a switch. Instead, starting pitcher Nick Blackburn was played on the 15-day disables list on Thursday with a strained left quadriceps muscle. On Wednesday night, they had announced that Doumit would be going to the DL. The MRI he took did have favorable results.

According to the Star Tribune, Ben Revere has been recalled from Triple-A Rochester and will start in center field on Thursday. They're going to go with 12 pitchers and 13 position players for the time being, though a pitcher call-up is expected in the near future.

Doumit is day-to-day on the calf strain, and according to the article, Manager Ron Radenhire said that Doubmit should be "a few days." He also suggested that Doumit would play right now if he had to, which is a good sign. Blackburn is injured for the second time this season, after going down at the beginning of the season.

Twins Vs. Tigers: Minnesota Goes For 2-Game Sweep In Detroit

The Minnesota Twins received welcome gifts when they got to Detroit. Now, what about some going-away presents?

The Twins can only hope the Detroit Tigers are in as charitable of a mood as they were Wednesday. The Tigers fumbled their way into four errors, which helped fuel 11 runs from the lowly Twins offense -- the most they'd scored all season.

Runs might be harder to come by Thursday, when the Tigers send Doug Fister to the hill. Fister has been nails since an early-season stint on the DL. In his last two starts, he has 11 strikeouts and one earned run over 13.0 innings.

The Twins' starter will be P.J. Walters, who is making his second appearance on the season. Walters was solid in his first outing, going 6.0 innings and yielding but two runs. Alas, the 27-year-old has a 6.79 career ERA in the majors, so Minnesota shouldn't bank on quality starts.

The Twins are still 4.5 games back of the Kansas City Royals in the Central.

First pitch Thursday is scheduled for 12:05 Central. Afterwards, the Twins head to Milwaukee for a three-game, interleague series with the Brewers.

Minnesota Twins Roster Moves: Ben Revere Recalled; Ryan Doumit To Disabled List

The Minnesota Twins have undergone more than their share of roster moves or the last couple of weeks and, following Wednesday night's win, another one took place. This isn't likely to have as large of an impact as the others have, but it should make the Ben Revere fans among us happy campers.

The Twins have placed Ryan Doumit on the 15-day disabled list and, in the resulting roster move, Revere has been recalled from Rochester. Joe Christensen first reported the news in his blog over at the Star Tribune.

The Twins placed catcher Ryan Doumit on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right calf after Wednesday's 11-7 victory over Detroit and recalled outfielder Ben Revere from Class AAA Rochester.

Revere is expected to be at Comerica Park in time for Thursday's series finale against the Tigers.

This should not hurt.

Twins Vs. Tigers Final Score: Minnesota Benefits From 14 Hits, 4 Detroit Errors In 11-7 Win

The Minnesota Twins entered Wednesday night's game as the most hapless team in baseball, with a struggling pitching staff, to say the least, and an offense that touts the fewest hits in the American League. Thanks to a little ineptitude from the Tigers and 14 hits, the Twins won their 11th game of the season, 11-7.

The Twins scored four runs off three early errors by the Tigers, but Nick Blackburn let the Tigers back into it by allowing five runs in the bottom of the second inning.

But after chasing Rick Porcello, who needed 100 pitches to get through four innings, the Twins took advantage of the Tigers' sorry bullpen. Jamey Carroll doubled in a pair of runs off Duane Below, Alexi Casilla singled in another run in the seventh and Trevor Plouffe put the game all but out of reach with a two-run dinger off Collin Balester in the ninth.

The Twins' offense did all of that while the Twins bullpen tossed seven innings of one-run ball between Jeff Gray, Alex Burnett, Brian Duensing, Jared Burton and Glen Perkins.

The quick two-game series concludes tomorrow, with first pitch slated for 1:05 p.m. ET.

Twins Vs. Tigers Score Update: Nick Blackburn Chased After 2 Innings

The Minnesota Twins have been gifted four runs and had a 5-1 lead going into the bottom of the second inning, but Nick Blackburn allowed the Tigers right back into it and didn't make it back out to the mound in the home half of the third.

After getting the lead off hitter in the second on strikes, Blackburn proceeded to walk Ryan Raburn and give up five straight singles that plated four runs. Prince Fielder capped off the five-run inning for the Tigers by hitting a sacrifice fly and just like that the Tigers were up 6-5.

Blackburn was relieved by Jeff Gray after the Twins tied the game in the top of the third.

Brian Dozier has a three-run home run and Josh Willingham has two hits for the Twins, upping his batting average to .298 on the season.
