The Minnesota Twins locked up catcher/designated hitter Ryan Doumit on Friday with a two-year, $7 million extension that will keep him around through the 2014 season.

The Minnesota Twins locked up a part of their future on Friday night before first pitch with the Kansas City Royals, as the organization and catcher/designated hitter Ryan Doumit reached a two-year contract extension.

1500ESPN's Darren Wolfson is reporting that Doumit's deal, which will keep him in town through the 2014 season, is worth a total of $7 million.

A valuable two-way player for the Twins due to his ability to catch or DH when needed with a trusty .300 clip from the plate, Doumit has quite literally flourished in his first season in the American League. The 31-year-old veteran currently sports a .271 average with seven home runs and 32 RBI, and has held down the No. 6 spot in the Twins' batting order quite admirably for much of the season. Even after just 59 games, Minnesota looks to have made a wise decision by extending his deal before his market value increases.
