Twins' Matt Capps Reinstated From DL, Kyle Waldrop Optioned To Triple-A Rochester

The Minnesota Twins have reinstated right-handed pitcher Matt Capps from the 15-day disabled list, according to the Star Tribune. Capps was on the disabled list due to a sore shoulder, but he had a couple of rehab assignments with Single-A Fort Meyers, and pitched a couple of scoreless innings while doing so.

Capps is 1-4 with a 3.42 earned-run average and 14 saves on the season. He had the closing role before he was injured and he might get the same role again, but it's likely he'll be brought in closer to the seventh and eighth innings to ease back into the role. As it stands, the Twins are doing well in regards to closers with Jared Burton and Glen Perkins being mostly-solid.

Right-hander Kyle Waldrop was optioned to Triple-A Rochester to make room for Capps on the roster. The piece from the Star Tribune notes that the non-waiver trade deadline is right around the corner on July 31 and the Twins might be trying to get Capps some time to see if there's some value to be had from teams looking for a reliever/closer.
