Kyle Gibson Injury: Twins Prospect Stellar Early In Return To Triple-A

Minnesota Twins pitching prospect Kyle Gibson dominated early in his return to Triple-A Rochester on Saturday, as Ben Goessling of The Pioneer Press writes. The 24-year-old is still recovering from Tommy John surgery, which he underwent last September.

The first-round pick from the 2009 draft was spectacular at first against Buffalo, striking out five of the first six batters he faced. Gibson couldn't maintain that dominance, though, allowing four hits to five batters during the following inning before being pulled after 47 pitches.

This week, Twins assistant GM Rob Antony told reporters that the team expects Gibson to compete for a spot in the big league starting rotation next spring. He'll likely finish this year in Rochester before potentially pitching in the Arizona Fall League.
