The Minnesota Twins are expected to announce their September call-ups on Friday, and names like outfielder Oswaldo Arcia and pitcher Esmerling Vasquez could be in the mix.
Among the names with the best chance at joining the big league roster are Double-A teammates Oswaldo Arcia and Aaron Hicks, as well as 28-year-old Triple-A pitcher Esmerling Vasquez. Vasquez is currently scheduled to be rested by Sunday in a game where the Twins will not be with the services of suspended lefty starter Scott Diamond, but it's unclear who the Twins will opt to get the first look at.
Hicks, a five-tool outfielder selected 14th overall by the Twins in 2008, is hitting .285 with 12 home runs, 56 RBI and 31 stolen bases for Double-A New Britain this season. He has been rated one of Minnesota's top positional farm prospects since signing out of high school, but has only now shown flashes of power at the plate as he develops as a hitter. Regardless of whoever the Twins opt to add to their roster come Saturday though, there's no doubting how badly this organization needs a boost from some fresh faces.
