Vikings Announce Roster Moves

Today the Minnesota Vikings made several roster moves, besides the obvious ones of the McNabb trade, undrafted rookie signings, and free agent signings.

They signed two players, TE Ed Barham and RB Alexander Robinson, and released three, WR Freddie Brown, DT Jimmy Kennedy, and S Madieu Williams.

Kennedy announced his release on Tuesday via Twitter, and the move was mildly surprising until the team announced the signing of DT Remi Ayodele of the Saints. Brown became expendable with the signing of Devin Aromashodu, and with a salary north of $5 million due to an oft injured and mediocre Williams, this move wasn’t a surprise either. The Vikings had asked Williams to restructure his deal, and he refused. When that happened, you could see the writing on the wall for the 2010 NFL Walter Payton award winner.

One name that wasn’t on the list? Wide receiver Bernard Berrian. Berrian, like Williams, has a high cap number and low productivity, and it seems like he could also be a prime candidate for the Vikings to get under the mandated laegue salary cap of $120 million.
