2012 NFL Draft: Vikings Open To Trade Talks With No. 3 Pick

The Minnesota Vikings have a number of options with the No. 3 overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft. Many believe they'll go after someone like Matt Kalil or Justin Blackmon, and they're guaranteed to get one of them, providing the Indianapolis Colts don't shock the world and draft somebody who is not Andrew Luck. Minnesota could easily just draft whichever of the two the St. Louis Rams don't take, since they've been continually linked to those two players as well. But there's been the sentiment that the team could trade the pick, something that general manager Rick Spielman agreed was a possibility on Wednesday:

"It will be, I think, very busy on draft day," Spielman said in an interview on the NFL Network set. "We're the third overall pick, so we'll be looking at all the options. If someone wants to come up and get our pick, we're going to be more than willing to listen."

Although that piece is most certainly a bit out of touch by implying that trading has not been on Vikings fans' minds, that's a good quote and opens up a lot of possibilities for the Vikings. They are in a unique position in that teams want to trade into that spot to draft Robert Griffin III, to get ahead of the Cleveland Browns at No. 4. Perhaps Minnesota could tell Cleveland that they're going to trade the pick, and then get the Browns to match the offer to swap places with Minnesota, thus getting some extra picks and one of Kalil or Blackmon.
