Adrian Peterson sat out Wednesday's practice but is still expected to play this Sunday at Washington.

Minnesota Vikings' running back Adrian Peterson sat out Wednesday's practice with a sore ankle but is expected to play against the Washington Redskins this Sunday, according to Mark Craig of the Star Tribune.

Peterson has played in all five games for the 4-1 Minnesota Vikings this season and leads the team's rushing attack with 96 carries for 420 yards and two touchdowns. After off-season knee surgery, Peterson ranks eighth in rushing yards and seventh in carries in the league. Peterson's backup, Toby Gerhart has 28 carries for 100 yards on the year.

Minnesota's rushing attack averages 133.2 yards a game on the season which ranks them ninth in the league.

The Vikings have won three games in row and are tied for first place in the NFC North with the Chicago Bears heading into their showdown with the 2-3 Redskins.

Vikings' wide receiver Jerome Simpson also missed Wednesday's practice due to a back issue but he is also expected to play this Sunday at Washington.
