Jerome Simpson injury caused by back issue, according to report

The right leg injury that limited Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Jerome Simpson against the Tennessee Titans was caused by a back issue, according to a report from Brian Murphy of the St. Paul Pioneer Press.

Simpson woke up Sunday morning with numbness in his right leg. He told the Vikings' training staff and coach Leslie Frazier that he could walk, but he struggled when attempting to push off with the leg during pregame warmups. Simpson did not record a catch against the Titans.

A MRI done after the game revealed the back issue, and more tests are planned to further pinpoint the problem. Simpson himself admitted that he could not trace the origin of the injury.

It's uncertain whether Simpson will be available to practice this week as the Vikings get ready for next weekend's matchup against the Washington Redskins. Frazier said it's unlikely that Simpson will miss a significant amount of time, but things are not "conclusive."

Simpson has only played in two games this season due to a suspension that kept him out until Sept. 30.
