NFL schedule 2012: Vikings visit Packers in key division battle

Dilip Vishwanat

Minnesota could give a big boost to its playoff chances with a win over the Packers on Sunday.

The chances of the Minnesota Vikings (6-5) winning the NFC North look slim, but they are tied with two other teams for the final playoff spot in the NFC and could strengthen that position even further with a win on Sunday. It will have to come against the Green Bay Packers (7-4), though, who are still fighting for playoff position themselves.

Both teams are coming off of demoralizing losses, with the Vikings getting shut down by the Chicago Bears and the Packers being blown out on national television by the New York Giants. The teams have yet to face each other and will do so twice in December, with Sunday's game kicking off at 1 p.m. ET on FOX.

Elsewhere around the NFC North, the Bears could do the Vikings a huge favor on Sunday. Chicago hosts the Seattle Seahawks -- who currently hold that tiebreaker over Minnesota for the NFC's final playoff spot -- and could knock them down to .500 with a victory. In six road games this season, Seattle is just 1-5 and is coming off a road loss to the Miami Dolphins. Bears-Seahawks is also a 1 p.m. ET kick on FOX.

The Detroit Lions, meanwhile, are hanging onto the slimmest of playoff hopes. They will need to win out and hope for chaos, and Detroit can begin a potential miracle run with a home victory over the Indianapolis Colts. That game kicks at 1 p.m. ET on CBS.
