The colleges from the state of Michigan did not produce a shortage of drafted players, and several more are hoping to become diamonds in the rough by working their way through the free agent market. The following players played their college football in the state of Minnesota and were able to sign with an NFL team during the free agency period following the Draft:
Eric Lair - Signed with the Green Bay Packers
Duane Bennett - Signed with the Green Bay Packers
Minnesota-Duluth:
David Nadeau - Earned a tryout with the Green Bay Packers
Minnesota-Mankato:
Lamark Brown - Signed with the Atlanta Falcons
These four players were the only players that have announced deals for free agency.More deals may be forthcoming

The 2012 NFL Draft continued on Friday night with the second and third rounds of the draft. The Minnesota Vikings selected cornerback Josh Robinson out of Central Florida with the 66th overall pick. Robinson was the only pick of the night for the Vikings, so Friday was much more calm than Thursday when the Vikings dealt their second round pick to move up to grab Harrison Smith.
Minnesota will be busy on Saturday with nine picks remaining in rounds four through seven including three fourth round picks, two fifth round picks and three seventh round picks.
Television coverage of the rounds four through seven is scheduled to begin at 12:00 p.m. on both ESPN and the NFL Network. The Vikings have plenty of needs to fill and with so many picks coming on Saturday they will have a chance to address several different areas with players that should have a good chance to make an impact.

The Minnesota Vikings drafted another player that they feel can be an immediate contributor by tabbing University of Central Florida cornerback Josh Robinson with the 66th overall selection in the 2012 NFL Draft.
Robinson was a pretty productive player for the Golden Knights, but he really wowed scouts at the 2012 NFL Combine by putting up the fastest 40-yard dash time, blistering the track at 4.33 seconds. He also had the best showing of all defensive backs at the Combine in the broad jump and the three-cone drill while finishing third in the vertical leap category.
He was a two-time all-Conference USA first-teamer, and racked up 10 interceptions and 36 passes defended over the course of the past two seasons. Robinson also developed into a very good punt returner at UCF, averaging 15.2 yards a return as a sophomore in 2010. He has also shown to be durable, playing in all 38 games he was eligible for in his three-year career in Central Florida.
This appears to be a very good pick for the Vikings, as Robinson can likely contribute immediately as a return specialist and work his way into the lineup as a cornerback. It seems that he'd be better in the type of zone scheme that the Vikings tend to favor rather than a man-based scheme.
Robinson has very impressive physical attributes, and has everything it takes to develop into a solid cornerback for the Vikings in the future.
The Minnesota Vikings addressed their secondary with their third selection in the 2012 NFL Draft, nabbing Central Florida defensive back Josh Robinson with the 66th overall selection.
Robinson is a 5'10", 200-pound cornerback that ESPN had ranked as the 61st best overall player in the draft class of 2012. The book on him is that he doesn't provide a whole lot in run support, but he has good speed and has shown good ability in coverage. He did have the fastest 40-yard dash time at this year's NFL Combine, and was also a very good punt returner for the Golden Knights, so that might be a role he finds himself in for the Vikings when he first gets started.
So, the Vikings appear to be done for this evening as far as picks are concerned. They still have nine picks on the docket for Saturday, so that could turn out to be a fairly crazy day. Regardless, we will have all the coverage of all of the Vikings' picks right here for you at SB Nation Minnesota.
For the second and third rounds of the 2012 NFL Draft, the National Football League is having former players from the 32 NFL franchises announcing the draft picks for those two teams, as they did last year. At the 2011 Draft, Chris Doleman announced a selection for the Vikings.
For this year's draft, the league has tabbed former Vikings' wide receiver Anthony Carter to handle the duties for Minnesota. Carter came to the Vikings via the United States Football League prior to the 1985 NFL season. In nine years for the Vikings, Carter caught 486 passes for 7,733 yards and 55 touchdowns. He then moved on to have two fairly quiet seasons for the Detroit Lions.
Carter is perhaps best known for his performance in the 1987 NFC Playoffs against the San Francisco 49ers. The Vikings faced the heavily favored Niners at Candlestick Park, and Carter lit the San Francisco defense up, catching ten passes for 227 yards as the Vikings upset the Joe Montana-led Niners 36-24 on their way to the NFC Championship Game.
The Vikings currently do not possess a second-round pick, having traded it away last night in order to move up and select safety Harrison Smith. So, as it stands now, the earliest we will see Anthony Carter will be the third round, when the Vikings are slated to select with the 66th overall selection.
The 2012 NFL Draft's best available players went early in the first round on Thursday night, but there are still plenty of solid players remaining. That's especially important for the Minnesota Vikings, a team that entered the offseason with needs all over their roster following last season's disastrous year.
The good news is that there are plenty of talented players available to selected in the second and third rounds on Friday night. The bad news is that the Vikings don't have a pick again until the third round, despite having 10 picks remaining for the final six rounds.
Anyway, according to our friends over at Mocking the Draft, there are still quite a few players with first round grades available. Whether Minnesota trades back into the second round to get them or stands pat with hopes that one of the players drops quite far again remains to be seen.

The Minnesota Vikings are already off to a pretty solid start in the 2012 NFL Draft after selecting Matt Kalil and Harrison Smith on Thursday night. The team still has a lot of work to do following last year's disastrous season, however, and could be in the market for more early draft picks when the second and third round get underway on Friday night.
The mock drafts indicate that there are quite a few talented players still available in the second round, but as it stands, Minnesota doesn't have any picks until the 66th overall selection -- a selection that won't take place until the third round gets underway. Our friends over at Mocking the Draft have their second round mock draft up anyway, though, and it's worth taking a look to see what the Vikings could potentially get if they decide to use some of their ten remaining picks to trade up again.
The NFC North picks for the second round, according to SB Nation's experts, will likely be a cornerback for the Detroit Lions, a wide receiver for the Chicago Bears and another defensive lineman for the Green Bay Packers.

After a superbly solid first round that saw the Minnesota Vikings pick up a potential franchise left tackle Matt Kalil and a solid secondary member in Harrison Smith, they don't have a pick in the second round. They'll still get some action going on day two of the 2012 NFL draft though, holding the third pick in the third round.
Walterfootball released a revamped mock draft after the results of Day 1, with the Vikings taking another offensive player in Round 3. They put another weapon for Christian Ponder in Minnesota, Iowa wide receiver Marvin McNutt.
The Vikings did a great job of finding someone to protect Christian Ponder. Now, they'll need to give their quarterback someone to throw to.
With no Round 2 pick the Vikings need to get extra value out of their later picks. Fortunately, they have plenty to go around.

The 2012 NFL Draft got off to a rousing start for the Minnesota Vikings as they selected Matt Kalil and Harrison Smith after trading down, and then up, before Thursday night's first round was complete. The team has 10 more picks to go, however, and all of that will begin with the start of Friday night's second round.
Television coverage of the second round is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. on both ESPN and the NFL Network. Vikings fans won't need to tune in too early, however, as the team doesn't pick again until the third overall pick in the third round.
That doesn't mean the second round doesn't have any implications, though, because it's always fun to see what the competition is doing -- and what else is going on Friday night that's better than watching some good ol' National Football League coverage?

The 2012 NFL Draft begins on Thursday night. We've decided to submit our final mock draft, then, featuring the Minnesota Vikings still taking Matt Kalil.
