Former Minnesota Gophers DL Anthony Jacobs Signed By Vikings

The Minnesota Vikings agreed to terms with undrafted defensive tackle Anthony Jacobs on Tuesday, days after the interior lineman impressed team personnel over the weekend at the Vikings' rookie minicamp.

Jacobs was one of four former Minnesota Gophers players who tried out for the team, but the first to receive a contract. A 6-foot-2, 291 pound defensive tackle, Jacobs started 26 games over his final three seasons with the Gophers, recording five sacks.

Out of Minnesota's 10 selections in last month's NFL Draft, the Vikings only came away with one defensive lineman (7th round pick Trevor Guyton, DE from California), so there's clearly a need for depth along the line. Jacobs was originally a four-star recruit as a high school player, and was even tabbed as the No. 1 overall player in the state of Minnesota in the '07 class.

Spencer Ohm, Da'Jon McKnight And Others Participate In Vikings Rookie Camp

The Minnesota Vikings rookie minicap took place this past weekend. Several players with local connections were invited to participate on a tryout basis.

Blooming Prarie's Spencer Ohm was one of the 39 players that were trying out for the team out of the 70 players total at the camp. Ohm spent four years at quarterback for the St. Paul-based Concordia University. After breaking his foot at the beginning of the 2011 season, Ohm returned for his team's final six games, passing for 1,771 yards and 17 touchdowns.

"I looked at it as an opportunity to get my feet wet, and I felt my skills were right with those guys," Ohm said. "I think I'll have a good chance to get to a (training) camp or at least get another tryout with some team." (Via: TwinCities.com)

Ohm will find out in a few days whether he will be invited back to the Viking's training camp.

Also trying out for the Vikings were several former Minnesota Golden Gophers. Wide receiver Da'Jon McKnight, defensive linemen Brandon Kirksey and Anthony Jacobs, along with tight ends Nick Tow-Arnett and Tiree Eure all participated in the weekend rookie camp. According to this report, Jacobs was used at defensive line and on special teams. Like, Ohm, the group of Gophers will likely hear back from the Vikings this week.

Minnesota Vikings Minicamp: CB Josh Robinson One Of Several Rookie Standouts On Day 1

The Minnesota Vikings opened rookie minicamp on Friday. Two practices is a little early to start anointing 2012 starters, but a handful of players stood out on their first day wearing a Vikings uniform. Among those getting rave reviews was cornerback Josh Robinson, a 3rd-round pick in last week's draft.

Robinson, according to the Vikings official page, flashed the speed that attracted scouts. He also demonstrated an ability to cover.

The Vikings' two defensive backs from Notre Dame also used the occasion to put on a show. Robert Blanton, a 5th-round pick, showed "energy, size and instincts" in practice. His college teammate and the Vikes' 1st-round pick, Harrison Smith, looked equally as sharp.

Undrafted rookie receiver Kamar Jorden made a couple of highlight-reel catches and fired off the line well.
