Tarvaris Jackson Trade: Return To Minnesota Not Happening

The Minnesota Vikings were reportedly showing interest in bringing back quarterback Tavaris Jackson, but acquiring him is no longer an option now that he's been traded to the Buffalo Bills. After starting 14 games with the Seattle Seahawks last year, they decided to go in a different direction this season.

Jackson didn't necessarily play poorly with Seattle, but he never proved to be the long-term solution, either. Once the team opted to sign Matt Flynn and draft Russell Wilson this offseason, it became clear that Jackson would no longer be a key part of Pete Carroll's offense.

In Buffalo, Jackson offers a veteran presence with starter experience at the back-up quarterback position. The team was expected to go with Vince Young in that role, but he didn't play well during preseason after struggling with the Eagles last season.

For now, the Vikings will simply go with Christian Ponder as starter and Joe Webb as back-up, the same alignment that was used at the end of last season. After an up-and-down rookie season, the Vikings are hoping that their 2011 first round pick can break out in 2012.
