NHL Free Agency: Wild Qualify Offers To 8 Restricted Free Agents

On Monday afternoon, the deadline to extend qualifying offers to restricted free agents passed at 5 p.m., ET, and the Minnesota Wild retained the rights to seven of their pending RFAs including Chay Genoway, David McIntyre, Justin Falk, Nick Palmieri, Jarod Palmer, Carson McMillan, Cody Almond and Dennis Endras.

By extending a qualifying offer, NHL teams are able to retain the rights to restricted free agents so that when free agency begins on July 1, the club has exclusive negotiation rights with the player. If another team wants to sign the player, they must submit an offer sheet, which allows the club to match the proposed offer or be compensated in draft picks if they decide not to.

The team decided not to extend qualifying offers to Kris Fredheim, Nick Johnson and Guillaume Latendresse and all three players will become unrestricted free agents unless they come to a new deal with the Wild prior to July 1.

According to a report by Michael Russo of the Star Tribune, the Wild hope to extend Latendresse with a one-year, bonus laden contract prior to the market opening on Sunday.
