On Thursday night, the Minnesota Wild announced that the club had come to terms on a two-year, $1.15 million contract extension with energy guy Matt Kassian. The contract, which has not yet been signed, will be the first one-way contract of Kassian's career and will pay the six-foot-five, 252-pound tough guy $550,000 the first year and $600,000 in the second year.
This new deal appears to cement a spot on the team's roster next season for Kassian as he would have to go through re-entry waivers with the one-way contract if Minnesota wished to call him up from the minors.
The 25-year old registered two goals and 55 penalty minutes in 24 games with the Wild last season. He lead the team with seven fighting majors, which accounted for 64% of his penalty minutes.
