Christian Ponder received an endorsement from Vikings general manager Rick Spielman on Wednesday, and was touted as the quarterback of the future in Minnesota.
Despite his inconsistent play in 2012, second-year Minnesota Vikings quarterback Christian Ponder has the entire support of the organization behind him.
Vikings general manager Rick Spielman spoke on Wednesday about the organization's view of Ponder.
"I know everybody in this organization believes Christian Ponder is our guy. And I have full, 100 percent belief that Christian Ponder's going to be our quarterback heading into the future."
Ponder didn't throw an interception until Minnesota's fifth game of the season, but has thrown eight since. Ponder has had two games this season in which he failed to throw for over 100 yards, throwing for just 58 yards against the Arizona Cardinals, and throwing for just 63 yards against the Seattle Seahawks.
Still, Ponder is only in his second season, and has had plenty of good performances this season. To date, Ponder has completed 206-of-316 passes for 2,077 yards, while throwing 12 touchdowns against just eight interceptions.
Minnesota selected Ponder with the No. 12 overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft. Given Ponder has still had a solid sophomore season, it comes as no surprise that the Vikings still view Ponder as the quarterback of the present and future in Minnesota.
