Maturi Makes Real Jerk Move During Brewster Press Conference

New, 3 comments

Rather than conduct a dignified press conference to announce the firing of a coach that he hired, U of M Athletic Director Joel Maturi showed why he should, in all honesty, be following Tim Brewster out the door.

When asked about the search for Brewster’s successor, Maturi took a moment to line up and kick Brewster squarely in the junk.

You’re not following Vince Lombardi here,” Maturi said of a coach that exited with a 16-30 mark. “This is a situation where, you know what, somebody can come in and win some games and people are going to feel good about him and they win a few more games and they’re going to feel really good about him. And if we go to the Rose Bowl, we might even put a statue of them outside of TCF Bank Stadium.”

Yeah, you know, the next coach might not be “following Vince Lombardi,” but nobody doubts that Tim Brewster did the best job he was capable of while he was Minnesota’s head football coach. Yeah, he wasn’t terribly popular with fans or alumni, but there’s no reason to say something like that in a press conference.

After hearing Maturi say something like that to the Twin Cities media, who in the blue hell is going to want to work under him now?

Minnesota’s football program is currently languishing at the bottom of the Big Ten. . .and, as long as it’s under the purview of somebody like Joel Maturi, there’s a very good chance that it’s going to stay there.
