Ron Gardenhire Wins AL Manager of the Year

Twins manager Ron Gardenhire has finished second in the voting for AL Manager of the Year five times, and while publicly he claims not to care about this particular award, several Twins beat writers have mentioned that it does bother him privately.

Well, perhaps today will be some consolation: After winning his sixth division title in nine years at the Twins helm, Gardy was named 2010 AL Manager of the Year today. It’s a well-deserved honor, for a manager who took a team sans Joe Nathan and half a season of Justin Morneau and still turned it into a 94-win squad and yet another AL Central crown.
