In the Puerto Rico Tip-Off Classic in San Juan, the Gophers took on the eighth-ranked Tarheels of North Carolina. It was a hard fought battle, but in the end the Gophers hung on to score the upset. Blake Hoffarber led the way for the Gophers with 20 points, and Ralph Sampson III chipped in with 12 points and six rebounds.
