Gophers Defeat West Virginia To Win Puerto Rico Tip-Off

Blake Hoffarber knocked down a three-pointer with 1:31 left on the clock to give the Minnesota Golden Gophers a lead they wouldn’t give up, as they defeated the West Virginia Mountaineers 74-70 on Sunday night to win the pre-season Puerto Rico Tip-Off tournament.

The Gophers pushed their record to 5-0 on the young season, and though they’re still unranked, one would think that that would change in short order. After all, they spent their time in Puerto Rico knocking off the #8 team in the nation in North Carolina, and then a West Virginia team that went all the way to the Final Four last season.

The Gopher men will be off until Wednesday, when they’ll host North Dakota State University at Williams Arena.
