University of Minnesota athletic director Joel Maturi has been going around the country interviewing candidates for Minnesota’s soon-to-be vacant (again) head coaching position, and has informed donors that the coaching search has reached the final stages.

“The fact that so many Gopher football fans have provided feedback is a good indication of how much people care about this program,” Maturi said in the letter. “I’m proud to report that the hiring process for our new football coach has gone extremely well to this point. Our search firm has helped us identify and get a number of outstanding candidates.”

There are five names that seem to keep coming up in connection with the Minnesota head coaching job. Those names are as follows:

↵

Troy Calhoun, head coach, Air Force Academy
↵Randy Edsall, head coach, Connecticut
↵Al Golden, head coach, Temple
↵Brady Hoke, head coach, San Diego State
↵Dan Mullen, head coach, Mississippi State

Being an Air Force person myself, and because of the type of offense he runs, I’m personally pulling for Calhoun, but we’ll see what happens as we get closer to hiring time.
