The record snowstorm that has ravaged the midwest over the last couple of days has shown no mercy on the venerable Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome. Accumulation of snow on the roof caused it to collapse at about 5 o'clock this morning, causing the teflon roof to tear in three places. there is snow on the field of the Metrodome, but thankfully, and most importantly, nobody was hurt.
The Metropolitan Sports Facilities Commission, the organization that runs day to day operations of the Metrodome, has no timeline on when the facility will be repaired to the point that an NFL game can be played there.
According to NFL spokesman Greg Aiello, the NFL is looking at still playing the game on Monday Night, but are considering moving it to another facility. TCF Bank Stadium is an option, but Aiello also mentioned another domed stadium. The closest domed facilities that house NFL teams are in either St. Louis or Indianapolis. Milwaukee has a baseball stadium that is domed, but I doubt that is a serious option.
