Hardy heads for the DL after all

Earlier this week, I wondered whether J.J. Hardy could best help the Twins by going on the disabled list, rather than trying to gut through his left wrist injury. As it turns out, all of his efforts – a week of rest and a Tuesday cortisone shot – weren’t enough to get the Twins shortstop back in the lineup. Hardy was placed on the 15-day DL last night, and Trevor Plouffe was called up to fill the empty roster spot. Plouffe was 3-13 at the plate in an earlier stint with the Twins this year.

Ron Gardenhire told LaVelle E. Neal of the Star Tribune that Nick Punto will likely slide over to second base for the time being, making room for Plouffe and Brendan Harris to get some games on the left side of the infield.
