NHL Draft Stream: Wild Hold the Ninth Pick

The first round of the NHL draft takes place tonight, and can be viewed on VS in the US, and TSN in Canada. Coverage this evening begins at 6PM central.

As it stands right now, the Wild hold the ninth overall pick. Hockey Wilderness has a breakdown of who may or may not be available at that position, who the Wild should take if available, and who the "experts" think the Wild will take. The one thing that is most haunting to Wild fans right now is that the last time the Wild picked in the 9 spot, they selected James Sheppard.

It should be an interesting evening, as in the last week there have been only a handful of trades, and the draft is the second busiest trading period in the NHL. Also to be noted is that fact that the majority of high quality free agents have been re-signed by their current teams, meaning tonight and tomorrow could make for interesting theater as NHL GMs try to find solutions to their problems that now cannot be found via free agency.

Stick with SBN Minnesota for constant draft updates, and make sure you join the conversation either here or over at Hockey Wilderness on their draft open thread.
