Justin Morneau Will Miss All-Star Game

Justin Morneau will not start in this year’s All-Star Game after all. After putting up solid first-half numbers, Morneau was selected to the fourth All-Star Game of his career, and selected as a starter for the first time. The first baseman suffered a concussion in Toronto on Wednesday, and hasn’t appeared in a game since.

Morneau didn’t feel he should travel to Anaheim to participate in festivities if he couldn’t play for his own team.

Twins first baseman Justin Morneau will skip Tuesday’s All-Star Game, the team announced today, after Morneau was examined by Dr. Kenneth Podell, a head and concussion specialist who works with the Tigers, Red Wings and Lions.

Podell recommended that Morneau return home for rest. Morneau will be re-evaluated in Minnesota during the All-Star break.

Joe Mauer will now be the team’s lone representative at this year’s Midsummer Classic.
