Jonny Flynn To Undergo Hip Surgery Today

Jerry Zgoda of the Star Tribune can confirm Marc J. Spears’ earlier report that Wolves starting point guard Jonny Flynn needs hip surgery. In fact, as Zgoda reports on Twitter, Flynn will have that surgery today:

Flynn’s absence during his recovery period will limit the Wolves’ options at point guard. Free-agent signee Luke Ridnour will likely earn the starting gig, with Sebastian Telfair, obtained last night from the Cleveland Cavaliers in exchange for Ramon Sessions, getting backup minutes.

The cruelest irony in this situation is that Sessions is very likely the best of the three players, and the minutes he could have soaked up with Flynn out would have inflated his value around the league, allowing GM David Kahn to get more in return for him.
