All-Star Case: Francisco Liriano

New, 1 comment

After Carl Pavano put forth another quality start earlier this week, we pointed to some of his key stats that may or may not make him worthy of an All-Star selection. The rosters will be officially announced tomorrow at 11:00 CT on TBS, but before that happens, there is yet one more Twins' starting pitcher that deserves to be looked at.

With his 7 inning, one-run performance against the Tampa Bay Rays, Liriano has now put forth 12 quality starts in 16 total outings. He is 6-6 on the season with 3.32 ERA, 116 strikeouts (T-2, AL) and a 1.22 WHIP.

With both Joe Mauer and Justin Morneau looking likely to make the roster in some capacity and both Jon Rauch and Pavano as other possibilities in addition to Liriano, it could be a busy Midsummer Classic in Anaheim for Minnesota.

Ed. Note: In the comments - If it's either Pavano or Liriano, who deserves the spot?
