No Homerun Derby For Mauer, Morneau

While Joe Mauer was named the most on the ballot to take part in the Homerun Derby, and Justin Morneau was officially invited by the league, neither player will be taking part in the event this year. Tyler Kepner of the New York Times tweets the participants.

HR Derby participants: David Ortiz, Corey Hart, Robinson Cano, Vernon Wells, Matt Holliday, Miguel Cabrera.

Both Mauer and Morneau had hinted that they’d pass, and while fans certainly enjoy watching their teams being represented, it’ll be a much needed break for both All-Star starters.

#Twins 1B Justin Morneau did decline his invitation to take part in the HR Derby. Felt it was best to use the day to rest.
