After being rumored to be the front runners in a deal for Mariners’ ace Cliff Lee from the moment the trade talk began, the Minnesota Twins have missed out on adding the big gun to their staff.
↵The Mariners instead traded Lee to the Texas Rangers this evening. Lee and reliever Mark Lowe went to Texas, while the Mariners received rookie first baseman Justin Smoak and three minor leaguers in return.
↵What are the Twins going to do now? Nobody knows. . .but if they keep going at the rate they are now (currently three games back in the Central after another loss to the Tigers tonight), then maybe it’s a good thing they didn’t get too heavily involved in the Lee sweepstakes.
