Mauer Reaches 1,000 Hits For His Career

With his single to left field in the first inning against the Chicago White Sox this evening, Joe Mauer because the eleventh player in Twins history to reach the 1,000 hit plateau.

Considering that Mauer only averaged 104 games a year his first four seasons due to a litany of injuries, the fact that he’s reached the mark this quickly is pretty impressive. He’s reached this mark at an earlier age than Twins greats such as Tony Oliva, Kirby Puckett, Rod Carew, Harmon Killebrew, and Kent Hrbek.

Mauer’s next double will also make him the eleventh Twin to reach the 200 mark in that category for his career.

Congratulations to Joe Mauer on his outstanding accomplishment.
