VanDeSteeg Gives Up NFL Dream To Help "Brothers"

Willie VanDeSteeg, former star defensive end for the Minnesota Golden Gophers, had spent the last year chasing his dream of playing in the NFL. Having spent a year on the Baltimore Ravens’ practice squad, he was cut and didn’t catch on with anyone else.

But after the passing of Terry Hoese. . .father of Gophers’ fullback Jon Hoese and Jon’s older brother Chad. . .VanDeSteeg put aside his NFL dreams and came back to Glencoe, MN to help Chad run the family farm. Words can hardly describe the sort of selfless act this was by VanDeSteeg.

For the whole story, you owe it to yourselves to check out Kent Youngblood’s story in the Star-Tribune and read all about it for yourselves.

You’re a good man, Willie VanDeSteeg.
